The journey of personal growth comes in stages throughout life. In her forth book of poetry, Daquin examines where she is having tackled earlier stages and found herself to be in a place of increased honesty and reconciliation. Through a blending of narrative, exclamation, humor and healing, she shines a light on the emotional dynamics of existing in a complex world with the vivid imagery of the American Southwest as her backdrop.

Book Four Sit in fever Candice Louisa Daquin 9781329863866 Books

So far, I’ve read 3 of Candice Daquin’s 4 books of poetry, and I find her to be a very interesting and talented writer. Her writing is brave, honest, raw, intense, and at times even disquieting in her willingness to tell it like it is and/or discuss subjects some find might find distasteful. But that last description having been said, know that what she writes about are often pieces of her personal reality, and to read Candice is to know Candice, not in part, but in all that she is and has been. Her writing is neither trite nor inconsequential, and her imagery is as rich and powerful as it is confounding and puzzling on occasion. She is capable of telling stories that are enchanting and charming as well as ones that are bittersweet and/or troubling. She pens poetry about relationships, transformations, and issues, both emotional ones and worldly ones, and in much of it are to be found profound thoughts and truths. One can even find uncannily, accurate images of him or herself in the passages of some poems. There are pleasant rhythms and cadences in her works, and she has a good command of language, both in familiar expressions and those rare. And I personally find that I must read and reread some of her poems or at least several lines of them so that the rich layering can be fully understood and so that the piece can render the intended lasting impact. If one is to discover the subtleties and deep import of not only the lines of Candice’s poetic offerings but also the verities of what lay between the lines, it is necessary read, mull, and ponder.

Just finished reading this book, best one yet! I am continually amazed with Daquin's ever expanding talent. Her work is to be savored, simply incredible.
No other poet today writes with the style and imagery of Candice. She takes the reader to places they don't expect to go and can't forget once they have been there!
Candice's poetry evokes an emotional response every time. This is truly the hallmark of a consummate poet. Additionally, the phrasing and sentence structure burst like a cherry pepper against the tongue. Flavor and spice and the echo of past experiences. Her work resonates. I can honestly say that her words have made my heart ache in wistful melancholy and brought tears of remembered joy. Read her work.
Having been given Daquin's first collection of poetry by a friend I went on to purchase Books Two and Three. When the fourth came out I had already advance ordered, which for the genre of poetry you may find unusual (as did I) but much like reading a favorite fiction author, the same is true of a favorite poet. You may not be reading long stories but the stories are there, and so is the scope of imagination and what that evokes in the reader. I find reading Daquin's work that I am always hungry for more, she supplies thought in a very thoughtless world and I highly recommend her writing to anyone who loves poetry or good writing!
